Our Trip to Scotland

Travel Photography & Elopement in Scotland

When things from the pandemic finally started to die down, I was itching to travel and photograph my experiences. Thankfully, my best friend decided to elope in the beautiful country of Scotland in May of last year. Although I was at her wedding as a witness and not a photographer, I was still able to capture some amazing shots from her day and our trip. The biggest challenge for me by far was the weather! Most days we had all seasons so it was hard to plan for. Janessa’s wedding day started out in a cold rainy storm, and then we managed to get sunburnt in the afternoon. It was both bizarre and beautiful at the same time.

We had so many memories and incredible experiences while in Scotland. Some highlights from our trip include feeding reindeers in the Cairngorm’s, hiking Old Man of Storr, and visiting the James Bond road from Skyfall in Glen Etive. We got to see highland cows, dinosaur footprints, castles and lochs. Most importantly, we witnessed a beautiful wedding at the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye, and ate the most amazing meal together with our best friends.

For me, aside from watching my best friend get married, a big draw to Scotland is the association with all things Harry Potter. We got to live out some of my biggest dreams when we visited. We rode the real life Hogwarts Express over the Glenfinnan Viaduct, saw Tom Riddle’s gravestone, and wandered down the road that was the inspiration for Diagon Alley.

I’m so glad we got to explore all the incredible things Scotland has to offer and spend some time recharging away from home. It was also my first experience doing travel photography since jumping into this world. Here are some of my favourite photos from the trip. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
